Johanna Winters’ work engages puppetry, sculpture, and moving image to confront gendered expressions of pleasure and disappointment. She is a 2025 MacDowell Fellow and has been awarded residencies at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Yaddo, Vermont Studio Center, and the Women’s Studio Workshop in Malmö, Sweden, among others. Johanna’s work has been exhibited and screened widely, including at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Jumping Frames International Movement-Image Festival (Hong Kong), Open Air Media Festival (Iowa City, IA), Herron School of Art & Design, H&R Block Artspace (Kansas City, MO), Drama Club (Chicago, IL), and Soo Visual Arts Center (Minneapolis, MN).
