Composed in response to the death of my former partner, My Body Is a Lens creates a symbolic taxonomy of diaristic objects and depicts ritualistic interactions with domestic and natural spaces. It inspects the impulse to derive stable narrative and mythology from lived experience, moving back and forth between material and history.

Ellery Bryan (they/them) is a nonbinary visual artist and educator translating physical to ephemeral media. Their artwork traces non-linear themes of loss and ritualized gestures of connection through analog films, performances, sonic and sculptural installations. Overlap between collective mythology and personal memory, and durational relationships between body and place, form the basis of their research. They are an Assistant Professor of Film and Video Production at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
